Ah, glorious Film Noir!_____ Filmed in a semi-documentary style, 1947's T-Men vividly tells the tale of 2 undercover agents from the American Treasury Department in Washington, DC, who risk life and limb in order to infiltrate a ruthlessly cunning organization of expert currency counterfeiters who have operations in both Detroit and Los Angeles._____ Moving from one fleabag hotel to the next, agents O'Brien and De Niro cleverly track down "The Schemer", a valued member of the VanTucci mob, who eventually leads them to Mr. Big._____ Filled with plenty of hard-hitting action, cold-sweat suspense and deadly double-crosses, T-Men is a gritty, no-nonsense Crime-Drama that is sure to please any fan of Film Noir. _____ Filmed very effectively in stark b&w.

Anthony Mann directed this film noir previous to his James Stewart angry man Western period. Mann deliciously plays with shadows, darkness and unusual camera angles as he uses these to increase the mystery and suspense. The film is narrated by Gayne Whitman, the ubiquitous narrator of the time, to give the film a semi-documentary feel. Strangely, I am not sure which of Whitman's multitudinous films, TV series or radio series I have seen or heard, but I know that voice so well.

This movie has a narrator WHO SAYS MANY OBVIOUS THINGS IN A LOUD VOICE. Aside from that, T-Men is a bitter, tense thriller, with stunning noir cinematography. There are few better examples of cold-sweat undercover police work.
